Who is Weston Volunteer Fire & Rescue Department?

We are people, like you!

  • The Weston Volunteer Fire & Rescue Department is a dedicated team of community volunteers who proudly serve the village of Weston, Nebraska, and its surrounding rural areas. Nestled within a unique region that includes a major state highway, a farm co-op, and drought-prone grasslands & farm ground, our department is committed to providing essential emergency services to our district and surrounding districts when needed. We respond to an average of 75 calls annually, handling a range of challenges with skill, dedication, and an unwavering commitment to public safety.

  • Our team protects Weston’s population of ~1500 residents and covers an extensive 55-square-mile rural service area, including agricultural lands and grasslands. The department operates a fleet of six firefighting vehicles, including a fire engine, tanker, and specialized grassland tanker, alongside three versatile pick-up trucks suited for both grassland and equipment needs. With up-to-date personal protective equipment (PPE), Self-Contained Breathing Apparatus (SCBA) units, and safety gear, our team is well-equipped to handle emergency scenarios.  We do not compromise in safety equipment, as strive to reduce long-term health risks for our members.

  • Our commitment to community safety extends beyond emergency response. Through ongoing training, both in-house and with external partners, we ensure that our members are prepared and confident in their skills. Monthly business meetings and training sessions foster a culture of continuous improvement and teamwork. Our recent initiatives in community outreach and recruitment have been highly successful, bringing in enthusiastic new members who contribute fresh energy and ideas.

Our volunteers are more than first responders; they are community members passionate about protecting and serving their neighbors. Through public fire safety programs, we work to reduce risk and build trust within the community. The Weston Volunteer Fire & Rescue Department stands as a powerful testament to the strength of volunteerism and the positive impact it brings to our community.

Stronger together with mutual aid.

Emergencies don’t stop at borders. That’s why we work closely with surrounding fire departments through established mutual aid agreements. These partnerships allow us to share resources, manpower, and specialized equipment when incidents require additional support—ensuring the highest level of service for our residents.

Together, we stand ready to protect our community when it matters most.
